Federal Oversight and Receivership

Did Amish Shah say he would push to end federal oversight of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office?

On AZ Family's Politics Unplugged, Amish Shah was asked whether he would push to remove federal oversight of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, which has been under federal oversight since 2013. He said federal oversight can be useful, but it has to be time limited and judicious, and that keeping a department in receivership for a long time without a timeline wastes taxpayer dollars.

Amish Shah said on AZ Family's Politics Unplugged that federal oversight can be useful, but it has to be time limited and judicious. He said people will come in and do some oversight and there will be some changes, but there has to be a timeline to get out of receivership in a reasonable amount of time. Without one, he said, keeping a department in receivership for a really long time is actually wasting taxpayer dollars. In a separate interview, Amish Shah said, as Axios Phoenix reported, that federal monitoring of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office "cannot just keep going on forever and ever." That monitoring was implemented in 2013.
